So as you may or may not know, I plan to do something (many things?) in the dance/theatre/circus worlds when I graduate from undergrad. In a miraculous happenstance, my theatre professor decided that, instead of writing a research paper for our final paper, we should write our own theatre manifestos. Well, for me, the manifesto should include theatre/circus because, as she said, “It’s what you do!” Writing the first draft of this manifesto was an amazing experience. It felt as though the ideas, if not the words (which are still a little awkward, I will admit) were pulled out of somewhere inside of me. Exhilarating and draining, all at once.
And of course, as my beautiful readers, you want to read my manifesto! And just in case you don’t, here’s a “read more” tag thing. :)
This is an exercise everyone should engage in. The balance between Just Doing and knowing WHY you are Doing is difficult to achieve, but hugely rewarding if done right. We must understand the things that make us light up with passion — the things that set our brains and bodies buzzing. Following them will lead to fulfilling, challenging work, which, as we all know, is the foundation of the path to enlightenment.
